While it won't officially be unveiled until the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, General Motors displayed an artist's rendering of the truck at the California International Auto Show in Anaheim earlier this week.
Based on the same engineering platform as the Chevrolet Equinox, the Torrent will have a 3.4 liter 185-horsepower V-6 engine. Pricing has for the new SUV has not yet been announced.
"The Torrent represents a new dimension of Pontiac's commitment to 'total performance'" said Jim Bunnell, Pontiac-GMC general manager. "Along with a spirited powertrain and a crisp handling package rarely seen in a compact SUV, the Torrent adds a degree of flexibility and spaciousness designed to meet the needs of owners with active lifestyles."
The truck is scheduled for production in the fall of 2005. About the same size as the Equinox, it will be slightly larger than the current Pontiac Aztek, which will go out of production at the end of this model year. Officially, however, GM is not calling the Torrent a replacement for the Aztek.
