NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The race among satellite radio operators to sign up big name celebrities heated up Wednesday when XM Satellite Radio announced it will soon add conservative talk show hosts Dr. Laura Schlesinger and G. Gordon Liddy to its programming lineup.

XM Satellite said it will begin broadcasting Feb. 15 Schlesinger, also known as "Dr. Laura," and Liddy, the former Nixon administration operative who went to prison for his role in the Watergate scandal.

Their arrival on XM airwaves coincides with a new talk programming schedule for the company. XM (up $1.15 to $31.95, Research) has 130 channels and more than 3.2 million subscribers.

Other XM personalities include Bob Edwards, the former liberal NPR host, and shock jocks Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia, whose "Opie & Anthony" show was dumped more than two years ago by Viacom unit Infinity Broadcasting over a stunt in which they broadcast descriptions of listeners having sex in public places, including St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York.

"XM's talk programming has always represented a large spectrum of social and political views, and with our new talk line-up, XM will be expanding that universe of interests and opinions even further," said Eric Logan, XM's executive vice president of programming, in a prepared statement.

XM's arch rival, Sirius Satellite Radio (up $0.09 to $6.38, Research), has more than 120 channels and more than 1 million subscribers. Howard Stern, the ribald radio host who will move to satellite radio from AM-FM radio in early 2006, is Sirius' marquee personality.  Top of page
