NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - After exposing 145,000 people to potential identity theft earlier this year, the data services company ChoicePoint showed the scandal has not harmed its image by inking a deal Tuesday with the Internal Revenue Service.

Under the five-year, $20 million contract, ChoicePoint will provide information on the general public for the IRS' batch processing projects, which involve generating information on specific segments of the population.

"This contract demonstrates the government's continued confidence in ChoicePoint's abilities to provide them with critical solutions beyond the traditional public records environment," said Rob Russell, ChoicePoint's assistant vice-president for strategic development said in a statement.

In February, Choice Point announced that criminals posing as businesses had secured personal information on almost 145,000 individuals, exposing them to identity theft.

The announcement comes four days after the IRS announced that it was conducting a probe into its databases for potential security breaches.

More than 25 government agencies currently employ ChoicePoint's services.
