NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Summer travel is going to cost more this year - up almost 4 percent according to AAA. With record-high gas prices forcing vacationers to reconsider destinations, companies and travel marketers are rolling out the incentives. Here's where to find them:

1: Lodging Discounts

Check out Hotels.com. If you book two or more nights before July 2nd, for stays through Sept. 9th, you'll get a $30 rebate on your gas. If it's a bed and breakfast you're traveling to, check out BandBfinder.com or bedandbreakfast.com. These Web sites have compiled a list of inns across the U.S. that offer special discounts and packages. Some B&B's provide room discounts, gas cards, dinner vouchers and money toward a gallon of gas.

Heading for the mountains in Colorado, Utah or Idaho? Check out resortquest.com. When you spend four or more nights at one of its properties, you'll get a $50 Gas credit, an atlas and a cooler.

2: Grab your local discounts

It's not only hotels and inns that are trying to entice visitors. Some city tourism boards are also rolling out the incentives. Branson, Missouri is giving visitors, who have gas receipts totaling more than $40, a card worth up to $50 in discounts at local restaurants, retail stores and shows. Go to explorebranson.com for details.

Traverse City, Michigan is offering shopping discounts and even a bit of change to use at its casino. For more information go to http://www.visittraversecity.com/pumpupyoursummer/. To find out if a city you're traveling to offers any kind of promotion, go online to its local convention and tourist bureau.

3: Take a walk

It's not only cold hard cash and discounts that are being promised. Making life easier for pedestrians is another incentive. For example, Florida's travel planning Web site, VisitFlorida.com is promoting a program called Florida on Foot. On the Web site you can get a list of pedestrian-friendly destinations that can be reached by public transportation and detailed features of walkable areas.

There is also a fuel calculator on its Web site. Drivers can plug in where they're coming from, and where they're heading. Enter in some details like your car's miles per gallon rate and you'll get a breakdown of what the cost of the entire trip will be.
