Meet the Fortune 500's private eyeHow a corporate sleuth relieves stressVincent Volpi isn't just any private dick, he's the private dick for Fortune 500 companies, such as Coca-Cola (Charts, Fortune 500) and Gap (Charts, Fortune 500), looking to protect their brands and supply chains. Volpi, 52, spends most of his time cracking down on counterfeiters, investigating murder-for-hire plots, and leading PICA, his $20-million-a-year firm, based in Columbus. But to unwind he flies to a spread near Bogotá, where he grows carnations and roses. "I grew up in the inner city in Columbus, and the only spot of direct sun was a little bit at the side of my house," Volpi says. "I used to grow things there, and I always wanted a farm or a ranch. So when I bought the ranch, I constructed a greenhouse. I love to just sit in there, have a glass of wine, and look at the mountains - and just breathe. It gives me peace in a tumultuous career, one where I get exposed to a lot of the seedier parts of life." To write a note to the editor about this article, click here. |
