Businesses shipped less overall during the recession, which was tough on one of America's biggest trucking companies, YRC Worldwide. The trucking company had to close over 30 trucking terminals this November, and has yet to pull a turnaround. In the third quarter of 2010 YRC reported a net loss of $62 million, somewhat better than the net loss of $159 million that YRC reported for the same period in 2009.
In 2009, financials looked so bleak for YRC that the company contemplated applying for bailout money from the government's Troubled Asset Relief Program. This year, the company reversed that decision after customers balked at the idea. YRC continues to muddle through an economy where the trucking industry seems slow to recover.
