Donation: $32.8 million to Washington State University and others
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen may have dropped out of school along with Bill Gates, but that hasn't stopped him from supporting his would-be alma mater.
In December, Allen donated $26 million to WSU's School for Global Animal Health -- which the university then named after him. That's the largest donation in the school's history, and it kicked off a $1 billion fundraising campaign.
In a press release announcing the donation, Allen said he hoped the funds would "foster important research to improve Africa's capabilities to respond to animal-borne diseases" and "tie WSU to communities in Africa in lasting ways."
