Richard Lavina, 30, is the founder and CEO of Tickmark, the maker of an app called Taxfyle that simplifies the process of filing taxes.
After answering a series of questions, the app connects customers with licensed tax professionals who can file a return in an average of 45 minutes.
"There hasn't been much disruption in the accounting and tax space for quite a while," Lavina told CNN Tech. "We wanted to build something different."
Formerly an employee at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he came up with the concept while in an Uber car on the way to his office during busy tax season. He thought, why not apply Uber's model to the tax filing process by pairing customers with CPAs?
Taxfyle has over 30,000 users and works with more than 700 CPAs on the platform.
