Over the last generation, pay for some professions has risen much faster than the overall rate of inflation.
Accountants used to be the the guys in the back of the room with their sleeves rolled up, or the people businesses consulted once a year, said Steven Hanson, president of the National Society of Accountants.
Now they're more involved in the day-to-day decisions at a company, advising on sales, purchases, and generally how to make more money.
"Accountants have done a good job elevating our profession," said Hanson "Our role has really expanded."
Of course, it doesn't hurt that the tax code has gotten immensely more complicated.
