Peppers are a hot commodity this year. And it's not just the jalapeno pepper in the spotlight; chili and ghost peppers are becoming more mainstream, according to food experts.

"[Consumers] understand the levels of the peppers," said Jenny Zegler, global food and drink analyst at Mintel Food & Drink.

The spice factor is turning up in different places, including snack foods, she added.
