My Idea of Fun
(FORTUNE Magazine) – KATHY TIERNEY CEO, Sur La Table The kitchen-products queen first picked up yoga while with the Peace Corps in Fiji. Now she practices it daily, gaining strength and flexibility that makes her a better runner, golfer, and traveler. MEDITATE ON THIS "Business is often focused on analyzing the past or planning the future. Yoga is the complete opposite. It forces you to be present." TAKE IT WITH YOU "Sitting on airplanes is tough on the body, so when I travel, I practice yoga in my hotel room to stay aligned. Yoga is totally transportable." JUST BREATHE "It sounds so simple, but it helps you find your center. If you're ever in stressful situations, like public speaking, it can help keep you calm." NO PAIN, YOU GAIN "Yoga is not about pain. It's about getting to a place where you are comfortable and holding that position." AND ANOTHER THING ... "I like Ashtanga yoga over Bikram yoga, which is too structured for me, too over the top. My favorite position is the headstand. It's so nice to have blood rush to your brain, plus being inverted is good for you." From the September 4, 2006 issue
