CSX Signs Three-Year Agreement with Wireless Matrix to Acquire up to 2,600 Locomotive Communication Units
October 4, 2006: 10:04 a.m. EST

RESTON, VIRGINIA (Market Wire) -

Wireless Matrix Corporation (TSX: WRX) today announced that CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX), one of the nation's leading rail companies, has signed an agreement to purchase up to 2,600 Mobile Base Station 2 (MBS2-LPR) units for use in CSX's locomotive fleet. An initial purchase order for 600 units accompanies the agreement. The units are to be delivered over the term of the agreement commencing with the initial order in the fourth quarter of the calendar year.

The Wireless Matrix solution will support CSX's strategic business applications, including the CSX ATS asset tracking system. The Mobile Base Station includes WAAS GPS, satellite and cellular packet data services to drive efficiencies in locomotive utilization and fuel optimization. Wireless Matrix will also support the CSX Event Recorder Download (ERAD) application through 802.11 and broadband cellular services.

"Wireless Matrix has demonstrated the value of their solution throughout the pilot program," said Bill Everett, CSX's Director of Communications Engineering. "We're pleased to be working with them to provide our locomotive fleet with the best solution for our business needs."

"The new Low Profile MBS2-Rail unit is becoming the de-facto standard for the industry as rail companies increasingly automate mission critical functions" Wireless Matrix President and CEO J. Richard Carlson said. "CSX operates the largest rail network in the eastern United States and we look forward to working with them and building a lasting business relationship."

The purchase of the units comes after an extensive pilot of the Wireless Matrix solution within CSX's fleet, utilizing MBS1 modem functionality on more than 200 locomotives. The MBS2 Low Profile Rail unit is specifically manufactured for the industry, with design and construction elements that measure up to strict equipment height requirements and environmental restrictions such as extreme vibration, temperature and weather.
