Beard Resonator Guitar

Before electric guitars were invented, country and blues musicians used resonator guitars, with a built-in acoustic speaker that vibrated and amplified the sound. Paul Beard, 44, based in Hagerstown, Md., has been making resonator guitars for more than two decades, crafting each from solid wood (no laminates or plywood). He made just two guitars his first year, but he expects to make about 300 this year. John Fogerty owns a Beard, and guitarist Timothy Schmidt of the Eagles purchased one recently.
