Netscape introduces new browser version and corporate partners
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Netscape Communications Corp. on Monday introduced a stand-alone version of Navigator 4.0, its Internet browser software.
Netscape also announced commitments by companies such as IBM to distribute the software. IBM said it would include the browser with its software, hardware and other services.
"We've lined up the best enterprise vendors in the world," said Michael Homer, Netscape's executive vice president of sales.
Added IBM Senior Vice President John Thompson: "The combination of leading IBM offerings and Netscape Navigator will make it easy for businesses to deliver powerful e-business applications to their customers."
The company had developed a combination program called Communicator that included features such as e-mail and other business software. But that alienated important allies such as IBM., maker of Lotus Notes software.
The new stand-alone version of Navigator will contain Netcaster, Netscape's new "push technology" news product, as well as HTML e-mail.
