NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - As the economy continued to slump this past year, and the markets registered a second year of decline, companies suffered and businesses failed.
But for one industry, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. New York City's restaurant goers came out in full force this year to celebrate the culinary melting pot of America.
New restaurants and their chefs were revered by critics and patrons alike. On the top of the list was legendary master of French cuisine Alain Ducasse, who opened his first New York restaurant. But despite his all-star credentials when he hit the Big Apple, he wasn't exactly an overnight success.
