(Business 2.0) – Under the U.S. government's Operation Safe Commerce initiative, scores of high-tech cargo containers from Asia, Europe, and Central America are now passing through the ports of Seattle, Long Beach, and Newark. The new containers feature antiterror technologies such as electronic seals, biometric access controls, and radio frequency identification tags. Ultimately, the new security measures could add 3 to 8 percent to the cost of goods consumers buy in stores.
