(Business 2.0) – Headed in for a physical this month? Chances are your doctor will be in a better mood. Less happy, though, will be as many as 11,000 of Pfizer's global sales reps who could be laid off by year's end. The world's largest drug company--its best sellers include Zoloft and Viagra--will reveal the full details of the cost-cutting plan on April 5. Docs, increasingly irritated by high-pressure sales pitches and overloaded with useless freebies, are taking fewer meetings with drug reps than ever. The ax is falling after several years in which sales teams have grown as much as 40 percent. Analysts predict that other Big Pharma firms will soon announce similar moves.
