On the Launch Pad

(Business 2.0) – Startup: MeeVee The idea: Internet video that's as easy as TV From baseball games to Saturday Night Live clips, it's hard to keep up with all the video that's online these days. But TV search firm MeeVee might have a solution. In June the five-year-old startup based in Burlingame, Calif., will re-launch itself as a sort of record button for the Web. Once a user stores a list of interests--in either category or keyword form--MeeVee will scour the Internet for relevant videos and send them to a hard drive, digital video recorder, or cell phone. Thanks to deals with content providers including ESPN and NBC, MeeVee will also be able to notify viewers of future shows. If a subscriber indicates an interest in, say, big wave surfing, MeeVee can send out an alert about an online broadcast of the Mavericks surf contest. The service will be free, but MeeVee plans to profit from ads, revenue sharing for paid content, and affiliate deals.
