The company operates through four segments: Global Health Care, Group Disability and Life, Global Supplemental Benefits and Other Operations. The Global Health Care segment aggregates into two operating segments: Commercial and Government. The Commercial operating segment includes both the U.S. commercial and international health care businesses and offers insured and self-insured medical, dental, behavioral health, vision, and prescription drug benefit plans, health advocacy programs and other products and services. The Government operating segment offers medicare advantage plans to seniors in thirteen states and the District of Columbia. The Group Disability and Life segment focuses on large employers that value the company's wellness programs, integrated clinical approach and national network of health care providers. Global Supplemental Benefits segment offers supplemental health, life and accident insurance products in the U.S. and selected international markets. The Other Operations segment includes the following businesses: corporate owned life insurance; deferred gains recognized from the sale of the individual life insurance and annuity business and the sale of the retirement benefits business; and run-off settlement annuity business.
