HP trims its PC prices

Vectra business PCs slashed up to 21 percent; Brios, Kayaks reduced also

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Computer manufacturer Hewlett-Packard Co. announced Tuesday that it would be cutting prices on its business-oriented personal computers and workstations by as much as 21 percent.
The price cuts would include its Brio PCs, Vectra corporate PCs and Kayak PC Workstations, all Pentium II models. They would be effective immediately.
HP has reduced prices on its Vectra line of corporate PCs by up to 21 percent, with the popular 233 megahertz Vectra VL with 32 megabyte SDRAM and 3.2 gigabyte hard drive now retailing for $1,199.
Prices on the lower end of the Brio line formerly started at $799 but will be reduced by up to 15 percent. At the high end, the 300 megahertz Brio with 32 megabytes SDRAM and a 4.0 gigabyte hard drive will retail for $1,389.
Prices on the Kayak PC workstation line have been reduced by up to 19 percent, with retail prices now ranging from $1,690 to $8,600.
HP stock (HWP) rose 5/16 to 75-7/16 in late Tuesday morning trading.
