Mexico's stocks ended slightly higher after a session marked by thin volume, with the leading IPC index up 2.4 points, or 0.6 percent, to 4103.6.
Shares on Argentina's benchmark Merval index moved up 2.62 points, or 0.67 percent, to close at 390.0, while those in Peru and Chile ended flat, at 1376.66 points and 3763.14 points, respectively.
Colombian stocks on Bogota's IBB index edged up less than a point, or 0.04 percent, to 922.05, as investors held back ahead of much-awaited company results for 1998.
The markets in Brazil and Venezuela were closed for Carnival celebrations.
