Announces brake-cylinder replacement after drivers report problems
|
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Subaru of America Inc. recalled about 221,000 of its 1998-99 model year Forester and Legacy cars on Friday, citing a possible brake malfunction in extremely cold weather.
Subaru, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan, said it will replace the brake master cylinder to fix the possible defect in the secondary braking circuit. In temperatures of minus 22 degrees F and below, a few drivers reported that braking pressure was reduced and it took longer to stop the car, the company said.
No accidents or injuries have been reported, Subaru said.
The recall includes the Outback models of both the Forester and Legacy, the automaker said. The recall does not affect the 1999 2.2 liter Legacy model.
The company said it will notify all owners who may be affected, beginning with those who live in colder areas.
Last summer, Subaru recalled its 1996-97 model Legacys because of a defect in the front suspension system.
