NEW YORK (CNNfn) - DaimlerChrysler Corp. has voluntary recalled more than 645,000 of its 1993-1995 year model cars to fix a bracket that helps keep the engine securely in place, the company said after the bell Thursday.
DaimlerChrysler will be sending recall notices to owners of 1993-1995 year model Chrysler Concorde, LHS and New Yorker and Dodge Intrepid vehicles to repair engine cradle control arm brackets.
There have been 39 reports of cracking or separating of the bracket which attaches the control arm to the engine cradle. No serious accidents or injuries have resulted.
It's the third major recall issued by DaimlerChrysler this year. The Auburn Hills, Mich.-based automaker issued a recall on more than 2 million minivans last month because of windshield and rear latch problems. That followed a recall issued in late May on nearly 1 million minivans because of driver's side air bags that were unintentionally deploying.
DaimlerChrysler also said Thursday it is voluntarily recalling 1994-1995 year model Dodge Ram pickup trucks equipped with diesel or V-10 engines so the shock absorber tower assembly can be reinforced. That particular recall affects about 72,000 vehicles.
About 75 customers have reported broken or cracked shock towers after taking their Ram pickup trucks off-roading. The cracked shock towers can result in excessive noise and eventually lead to structural problems, the company said. No accidents or injuries have resulted.
Vehicle owners for both recalls will be notified by mail in December and advised to call their dealers and schedule service appointments. The repairs will be made at no cost to consumers.
