New Tel shares soar on news of project for Chinese Internet provider

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Australian telecommunications company New Tel Ltd. was the big winner in after-hours trading Monday because of its involvement in a deal to provide Internet service in China.
New Tel (NWLL) shares jumped 8-17/32 to 16-3/4 on Island ECN after the company announced it would be working with Chinese government-owned enterprises to set up Internet service.
"Through agreements signed with Xinhua Holdings Ltd., New Tel will establish a Chinese internet service provider and a Chinese/English language portal," New Tel Chairman Harry Sorneson said in a press release.
More than 1,411,000 shares were traded on Island’s after-hours session.
Following New Tel on Island, was Chastain Capital Corp. More than 628,000 shares of Chastain (CHAS) changed hands, with the price rising 6/32 to 19/32.
Shareholders approved a plan of complete liquidation of the real estate loan company last year and liquidation of most of its assets was completed Nov. 2, 1999. The company expects a final liquidating distribution in the first quarter of 2000.
Inprise Corp. showed that Linux is still a key word to spark investors interesting. Inprise (INPR) issued a press release Monday with the headline, "Inprise/Borland leads Linux Charge” announcing it would open the source code of one of its databases for the Linux platform - as well as Windows, NT, and Solaris.
Inprise was the third most-active stock on Island, gaining 2-1/4 to 16-3/19, and the fourth most-traded on MarketXT, jumping to 4-3/16 to 18-1/8.
Dell Computer and Sun Microsystems were also heavily traded on MarketXT’s after-hours session, with Dell (DELL) edging down 1/16 to 50-13/16 and Sun (SUNW) bumping up 1/2 to 77.
