Julia Carpenter


Julia Carpenter is a writer at CNNMoney, covering the intersection of gender and money. She has reported on sexual harassment, pay transparency, sexism in the workplace and more.

Prior to joining CNNMoney, Carpenter worked at The Washington Post, where she developed audience strategy for the features section and wrote about culture and technology. Carpenter’s work in social media journalism launched The Post on emerging storytelling platforms, with two projects in particular receiving national recognition. Pay Up, a first-of-its-kind Slack community, created a space for women to discuss how the gender wage gap affected their lives. Historically Black, a Tumblr-turned-podcast that told stories of black history, won a Shorty Award for its platform innovation. She’s written for Vogue, ELLE, New York magazine and other publications. Carpenter graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in English and journalism. She’s from Savannah, Ga. and lives in New York City.
