Even White Castle fans want a veggie option.

The fast food chain, notorious for its beef sliders, put a veggie burger on its menu Tuesday.

The burger joint was made famous by the 2004 flick "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle," which follows two stoners on a trip to White Castle when they get the munchies. So it hasn't traditionally been a haven for the health conscious.

But customers were asking for a meat alternative, said Susan Milazzo, the chain's New York regional director.

The veggie burger sells for 99 cents in New York City, slightly more than the original beef slider that goes for 77 cents.

Veggie patties are kept separate from the beef ones: cooked on different grills and flipped with green spatulas.

The veggie patty itself is the Dr. Praeger's brand, which features whole vegetables. They will be cooked on veggie burger-only grills and flipped with separate green spatulas, Milazzo said.

But they'll come on the same White Castle bun. No gluten-free option -- yet.
