Jimmy Fallon injured his hand badly enough to require surgery and force the cancellation of Friday's taping of "The Tonight Show."
The type of the injury is unknown, but a source at NBC said that it required minor surgery. It is unclear how long Fallon, 40, will be sidelined.
A spokesperson at NBC said that the talk show was already slated for a two-week hiatus around the Fourth of July holiday. It will be off the air June 29-July 3, and July 5-10.
The cancellation was announced early Friday afternoon on the official Twitter account for "The Tonight Show."
"Hey guys - unfortunately tonight's taping has been canceled due to Jimmy injuring his hand," the tweet said. "He's totally fine but we'll be airing a repeat."
In a subsequent tweet, the show announced that ticketholders for Friday's taping will be contacted to reschedule.
