New York state is poised to force fast food brands with 30 or more locations nationwide to pay a $15 minimum wage.
The higher wage will be in full effect by 2018 in New York City and by 2021 in the rest of the state.
The new $15 minimum is 67% higher than the minimum for all businesses, which is currently $8.75 and goes to $9 an hour next year.
The International Franchise Association provided CNNMoney with a list of the 116 franchise fast food brands that will be affected by the new requirement, which was passed by a board of the state's labor department and is expected to get final approval by the labor commissioner.
In addition, there are other fast food brands that don't franchise but could be affected -- such as Shake Shack -- because they have more than 30 locations nationwide.
