Just four of this particular model were made in 1955, all with the intent of winning Latin America's Carrera Panamericana road race, a race on Mexico's portion of the Panamerican highway which was considered one of the most dangerous in the world. It was designed especially for the Panamericana's narrow, uneven road surfaces.
