Real deal

bentley flying spur rear passenger

As Bentley's COO puts it "In a Bentley, everything that looks like leather is leather, everything that looks like metal is metal, everything that looks like wood is wood."

And when Bentley talks about "wood" they mean wood. When other automakers say "wood" they often mean, essentially, fake wood that is made from pulverized or sliced up real wood. Likewise, you will find no "pleather" in a Bentley. Real cows -- real pampered, carefully kept cows -- were killed for every inch of what looks like leather in a Bentley.

All that real stuff adds weight and complexity. Not only do natural wood grains have to be carefully matched but, in a crash test, the behavior of real snapping, splintering wood has to be accounted for, lest crash test dummies get giant splinters through their faces.

Again, one might ask the question, "Why bother?" And the simple answer is, again, "Because it's a Bentley." In other words, if you have to ask, you might as well buy a Mercedes.
