Most Manhattan skyscrapers are fairly standard monoliths. But the architects -- Herzog & de Meuron -- of 56 Leonard wanted to do something different.

The tower in Tribeca is designed to resemble a stack of glass blocks that will reach 60 stories when it's complete. In a nod to the neighborhood's art scene, the lobby is being built around a massive polished metal sculpture by the artist Anish Kapoor.
