Even before the Internet began to take its toll on the toy giant, it was losing ground to competitors like Walmart (WMT).

It's been saddled with a reputation for dirty stores, understocked shelves and poorly trained staff for years.

Sales during the nine-week holiday period last year dropped 5%, which is a big hit for a store that does half of its annual sales in the fourth quarter.
