Among searches for wedding photographers, the biggest demand is for those who are willing to travel with the bride and groom to capture their destination wedding, according to Thumbtack.

Ryan Gonzales is benefiting from this trend. The former police officer from New Mexico developed a passion for photography and honed his skill by shooting weddings for free.

"As I got more into it, I realized I needed to really educate myself about photography," said Gonzales. So he took courses, read books and studied the work of established photographers.

In 2007, Gonzales took the plunge and established his photography business, specializing in destination wedding photography. "I like to travel and the money is good," he said.

Gonzales is now a fulltime photographer, making $8,000 to $15,000 per wedding. "My business has grown exponentially. I probably travel twice a month," said Gonzales, whose busiest season is from September to December.
