Some kids thought this bug-eyed talking fur ball (monster?) was cute; others found Furby downright creepy.
What's certain is that Furby -- which talked gibberish whenever it wanted -- quickly became a phenomenon when it appeared in 1998.
The original Furby also didn't have an off switch, putting kids (and their parents) completely at its mercy, day or night.
