The PlayStation camera has an immediate disadvantage, because it isn't bundled with every console. Instead, it is sold as a $60 accessory, which likely means it won't be widely used by gamers or developers. (If it is, it probably won't be a central part of any must-own game).

The Microsoft Kinect camera, with its 1080p HD resolution and improved infrared sensing, is simply more capable than the two 720p imagers of the PlayStation camera. The Kinect, for instance, can measure your heart rate.
