MSNBC's "Morning Joe" has tapped former Fox Business Network EVP Kevin Magee to serve as the show's top executive, the network announced on Tuesday.
Magee, a central figure at the Fox Business empire since 2007, oversaw day-to-day operations at the network and at Fox News Radio until 2014. Prior to that he served as the head of programming for Fox News Channel from 2001 to 2006.
By hiring Magee, "Morning Joe" is likely looking to capture some of the magic that has made Fox News so successful in the cable news space.
"As we enter a fascinating and historic election year, we are thrilled to add Kevin's knowledge of news gathering and morning television," MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement. "'Morning Joe' is the most influential news show on television and Kevin's insight and experience will be a huge asset to our team."
The shakeup comes less than one year after "Morning Joe" created the executive in charge position for Michael Weisman, a veteran sports producer, in an effort to improve upon flagging ratings.
MSNBC did not say what Weisman's next move would be, though co-host Joe Scarborough said Weisman was "only committed to helping for one year," and that the show would "continue to seek his invaluable insights."
