In 1973, race team owner Roger Penske had Porsche build 15 identical (except for the colors) Porsche 911s for a new racing series called the International Race of Champions, or IROC. The idea was to pit the world's top race drivers against one another in identically equipped cars so that only the drivers' skill and courage would give them a winning edge. According to its series number, this was the first of those 15 cars built.
Seinfeld drove this car on the track and on the roads around Los Angeles. "Only Porsche made indestructible full-on race cars like this that you could, and still can, drive anywhere you want," Seinfeld said in Gooding's auction catalog.
