Related - America's most valuable car up for auction

This car is expected to, quite possibly, become the most expensive American car ever sold at auction. If it does, that will mean it sold for something north of $11 million, the price paid for a 1968 Ford GT40 race car in 2012. That car was also sold by RM Auctions.

The CSX 2000 was the very first Shelby Cobra, the progenitor of a line of instantly recognizable high-performance sports cars and race cars. Carroll Shelby and his team created these cars by putting high-output Ford engines into the small, lightweight bodies of British AC Ace sports cars. This particular car was owned by none other than Carroll Shelby himself from the day it was built until his death in 2012. This will be the first time it has ever been sold.
