How musicians land on China's blacklist

Maroon 5 abruptly canceled tour dates in China earlier this year after band member Jesse Carmichael attended an event in Los Angeles to celebrate the 80th birthday of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

He also tweeted a "happy birthday" greeting, along with a photo. Both have since been deleted.

The Dalai Lama was forced into exile after a failed uprising against Beijing decades ago.
