Reserve has a simple mission: Giving people a better dining experience, said co-founder Greg Hong.

That means finding a restaurant quickly, reserving a table, not waiting for the check, and avoiding that awkward moment of calculating the tip.

The Reserve app does all of that. You enter details like the date, time and number of people, and it offers a curated list of restaurants. The app takes your credit card information and will make a reservation and even pay for the meal. It also sets a default tip.

Reserve, which charges a $5 flat fee, has raised $17 million from a mix of large VC firms and celebrity investors that include Jared Leto and Will.i.am.

The service rolled out five months ago and Hong said it's already partnered with 120 high-end restaurants in New York, Boston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

"Many of these are award-winning Michelin Star restaurants," he said. "We've taken a nod from the traditional concierge model and have evolved it in our own way."
