Apple's biggest apologies

Public apologies from Apple are rare, but not as infrequent as you'd think. The tech giant has been forced to say mea culpa for some pretty major snafus over the past decade.

Stock options scandal: "Out of character"

Not all of Apple's apologies were product-related. In 2006, Apple became embroiled in scandal when an internal investigation revealed that numerous stock option grants made between 1997 and 2002 were doled out before they were approved by the board.

The company said it "found no misconduct by any member of Apple's current management team." Then-CEO Steve Jobs "was aware that favorable grant dates had been selected," Apple said, but he "did not receive or otherwise benefit from these grants and was unaware of the accounting implications."

Jobs issued a public apology for the scandal.

"I apologize to Apple's shareholders and employees for these problems, which happened on my watch. They are completely out of character for Apple," Jobs said. "We will now work to resolve the remaining issues as quickly as possible and to put the proper remedial measures in place to ensure that this never happens again."
