Microsoft's Zune MP3 player launched in 2006, at a time when the iPod accounted for around 75% of the mobile device market. Needless to say, the Zune didn't quite close the gap.
Microsoft tried to sell users on the ability to share media between Zunes and its subscription-style media library, but three years later, its market share stood at just 1%.
