Anticipation for Amazon's hyped-up smartphone was extraordinary -- but so was the let-down. Amazon's June launch event failed to live up to expectations. It had a gimmicky 3-D display and the "Firefly" product recognition system is already available on Amazon's app for other smartphones. The Fire Phone just isn't that great.
Amazon hasn't said how many Fire Phones it has sold, but it's a safe bet it's a small number. Amazon is literally giving them away for free now.
