windows nt

July 27, 1993. Windows enters the modern computing era.

Windows NT was a built-from-scratch, 32-bit operating system that supported much better PC hardware. It was primarily aimed at business computers and servers.

NT introduced the standard programming interface for Windows that survived an astounding 22 years -- all the way through Windows 8 (Windows 10 will finally replace the Win32 standard with the new Windows RunTime).
