September 14, 2000. Windows "Millennium Edition" or "ME" is released. It was derided for being buggy, but it introduced a few features that became Windows mainstays for years. CD burning, Image Preview and Windows Movie Maker all debuted in ME.
Windows ME was the last version of Windows to be based on MS-DOS and had a shelf live of little more than a year.
