The Walking Dead returns for a fifth season this month, just in time for Halloween. The story follows a scrappy band of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by flesh-eating zombies. The survivors also have to compete with other human rivals for dwindling supplies.

The zombie apocalypse genre has gone mainstream with the popular show on the TV channel AMC. It has led to popular discussions among ordinary people on how they would survive a zombie apocalypse. Weapons are necessary components, of course. Most of the characters have guns, like the AK-47 and the M-16 featured in the photo here. But some get by with crossbows and hammers. One guy has a tank.
