Ford's new hybrid gets 47 mpg, it will fit all your stuff and, believe it or not, it's a kick to drive.
I usually like a car that drives the way it looks, but the C-Max is one huge exception to that rule. It drives nothing like a potato and that's just fine with me.
This little hybrid wagon is quick off the line with responsive steering and brakes that feel firm and predictable with none of the wobbliness hybrid brakes often have. You'd expect a lot of body roll in something so tall, but the suspension keeps it pretty nicely under control in the turns. It may not be your choice for a day at the track but, all-in-all, the C-Max is surprisingly sporty.
