The S in F7S stands for surbaissé or "shallow." The car's frame was designed so that the 200-horsepower 3.3-liter supercharged 8-cylinder engine was mounted as low as possible in the car. That gives the car a low center of gravity for cornering, but also allows the long hood to sink down between the huge, swooping fenders.
As with Bugatti cars today, no expense was spared in making this the ultimate road car. Just one of this car's shock absorbers cost as much as an entire entry level car in its day.
