The AMG gets a full 355 horsepower out of its four-cylinder engine. It also has full-time all-wheel-drive, something that's an option -- to be available later -- on the CLA250.
That's enough power to pull this car from a stop to 60 miles an hour in a quick 4.5 seconds, according to Mercedes. Having driven the car, that number sounds absolutely believable.
Again, the CLA's small size makes it feel much more playful than other AMG models I've driven, which tend to feel hefty and kind of muscle bound on the road. The CLA feels nearly like a sports car. The ride's a little firmer than you get in the CLA250, sure, but it's entirely livable. Also, the steering is a little overly sensitive,I think, for everyday driving pleasure.
Still, I was loving the CLA45 until I heard the price. Prices start at $47,700. As I thought about what else I might get for that sort of money, my love burned a shade less brightly.
