The Ford GT40 was a LeMans-winning race car. Ford eventually built a street version, called the Ford GT, which was built for the 2005 and 2006 model years.

But, in the mid-1960s, Ford was already thinking about making a version for the public. That's when Ford produced six of these open-topped roadster prototypes.

Apparently, Ford decided the public wasn't ready yet.
